By 1993, activists had been fighting for a voice in city government for decades. Rudy Giuliani was running for mayor and showed up to march in the parade. However, many people doubted his support. He walked in the parade for a short time, but he refused to sit down with activists to talk about real issues like jobs and public transportation.
